REGISTER TO VOTE: Register by 18 June to vote in the General Election on 4 July.

This is the guidance on how voting works in the UK. Check if you can vote, register to vote, and find out how to vote in person, by post or by proxy.

🚨 Ahead of the General Election on Thursday 4th July, please note these key deadlines:

 

🎯 Register to vote: Tuesday 18th June at 23:59 (https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote)

🎯 Applying for a postal vote: Wednesday 19th June at 17:00 (https://www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote)

🎯 Applying for Voter ID: Wednesday 26th June at 17:00 (https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate)

🎯Applying for a proxy vote: Wednesday 26th June at 17:00 (https://www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote)

THE BEST WAY TO AVOID HAVING TO FIND A PHOTO-ID OR REGISTER A "VOTER AUTHORITY CERTIFICATE" IS TO APPLY FOR A POSTAL VOTE!

The deadline to apply for a postal vote in the 2024 General Election is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June. If you already have a postal vote arranged for all elections, you do not need to reapply

Voter ID

If you DON'T HAVE one of the approved Photo-IDs ... Apply for photo ID to vote on the 4th July ... by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.

This is also called a ‘Voter Authority Certificate’!

The APPROVED Photo-IDs are:

Check if you have accepted photo ID

You’ll need one of the following types of photo ID to vote:

  • a UK or Northern Ireland photocard driving licence (full or provisional)
  • a driving licence issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the Isle of Man or any of the Channel Islands
  • a UK passport
  • a passport issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or a Commonwealth country
  • a PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
  • a Blue Badge
  • a biometric residence permit (BRP)
  • a Defence Identity Card (MOD form 90)
  • a national identity card issued by the EU, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein
  • a Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card
  • a Voter Authority Certificate
  • an Anonymous Elector’s Document

You can also use one of the following travel passes as photo ID when you vote:

The photo on your ID must look like you. You can still use your ID even if it has expired.
