Liberal Democrats have a track record of campaigning to ABOLISH the Tamar Tolls.
For more than five years, South East Cornwall Liberal Democrats have campaigned to abolish the Tamar Tolls and for the bridge and ferry to be nationally funded.
The recent proposed increase in the Tamar tag account fee from 80p to £2 per month has understandably angered many residents on either side of the Tamar. This is particularly so in SE Cornwall, where residents have to cross the Tamar to access essential services.
In the short term, Lib Dems believe savings should be made on running costs to avoid these kind of drastic increases in costs to the public.
However, toll-free crossing of the Tamar must be the long term goal. Not only will abolition of the tolls help the residents with cost of living, but it would also boost to the local economy and improve traffic flow across the bridge.
The Liberal Democrats have shown real leadership on this issue:
- Supporting the Tamar Toll Action Group and the march over the Bridge.
- Uniting as a party to vote against toll increases in the past.
- Making abolition of the tolls official Lib Dem policy:
All Lib Dem MPs support full Government funding for the crossings.
The Liberal Democrat petition calls for the tolls to be ABOLISHED.
